2000 chevy Silverado 2500. Kept losing fluid but couldn't find an obvious leak. Thought I was going to have to replace pump & studied up on youtube. But no fluid showing around the pump, only in front of it. Wind should blow it back on the engine. Front bumper happens to be off & I was standing in front of the truck as it was running & noticed liquid running down my left pantleg. Assumed it was water laying in the grill & I'd rubbed against it. Shut truck off & looked around more, then restarted engine & walked in front of the truck, then saw 2 streams flowing down my pantleg! Bent down to see what the devil was going on & got squirted in the face with steering fluid (had safety glasses on). Road salt had rusted a pinhole in the power steering radiator line & a stream of fluid was shooting out 6 feet in front of the truck but was so thin you couldn't see it. Couldn't have located it with a bumper on. Yes, you have a radiator for your power steering! It's in front of the water radiator near the left headlight. About 2"x2". Two metal lines go under the headlight & back to the pump area. So I cut the 2 lines & connected them with a rubber hose to get around til weather gets better. No need to cool the fluid in 25 degree weather. If the pump hasn't been damaged, & it seems OK, maybe I get off Light this time. Maybe.
