I went grades 1-2 with one other student and 3-6 by myself. Water we had to carry from across the road. Bathrooms was outside. Heat was a oil fuel unit in the middle of the room...water would freeze sometimes in the water cooler that we dumped our water into. Spring and fall I would take off and help Dad....get back to school and start school again. 7th grade when I had to town school I had problems with English the first year. Math was my strongest subject. My folks paid for the Catholic schools in New Ulm. My Junior year I would take tests....we always had a bonus question. I would get A+...never would have ant wrong. The teacher had to have the jocks pass...that way they could play sports. Went to Public High School my senior year. I needed classes that would help me in the future. My senior year I missed over 30 days. I still was in the top 10% of my class.
