I would say that it is indeed carved from the graphite. And you should be aware that most places have a group of fellas that get together monthly or so in an informal woodcarving club. Check thru your community ed or ask around. Usually a close knit group...they all know each other and frequently for a long time...but you might learn something and enjoy yourself. I had a client for years who did this. He was always trying to get me to join. Wish I had in retrospect.
