Back in my younger days the best winter tractors had a choke knob on them. Most diesels were parked for the winter and not used. I worked for one fellow that had a Farmall 460 diesel that was addicted to either. On a 70 degree day you had to open the doors on both ends of the shed. Start cranking on the 460 while feeding it either. Once it would run on it's own you had to run outside to get some fresh air. The sparrows would fly out as soon as you climbed on the 460. They knew what was coming. In all fairness though the 460 was pretty wore out. I was told that the farmer had the head worked on and that improved it quite a bit.
