: A friend has just aquired a farmall model 1-A and I am trying to help him get some information on thus tractor. It appears to have the original paint which is yellow, and the front end appears to be heavy duty. It does not have a PTO and it has a foot throttle. Otherwise it looks like any other model A. The serial number is 1aa196351. My s/n book contains no info on this model. Can anyone give me any info on this tractor and would it be considered rare? Jerry, What your friend has is an model "IA", or an International A (as opposed to a Farmall A). Correct color is yellow, and the tractor was intended for use in city, parks, golf courses, and other industrial uses. Some did have PTO, and they were usually equiped with a side mount sickle mower. Tires were usually diamond tread or turf type for use on grass (to pull a gang of reel type mowers) and on pavement. IHC used these in their own operations in plants to pull carts and move finished machines off the assembly lines. IH was a big user of their own tractors. This tractor is fairly rare, and the addition of a PTO would not distract from the value.
