The generator is a lucas C40. The original Vreg Is a Lucas RB108. The only replacement is the Lucas RB340 knock offs that I gather aren't made very well. I see now after being to the rebuild er that the settings are very touchy. He had one on the shelf and my old one and an original Lucas only the original lucas worked. One wouldn't work with the cover on. I suspect the iregilar shaped gasket is deforming the base of these when you tighten the lid on.
