Tom- I'm in the same boat- tore the right shoulder in several places at several times, tore the long head of my right bicep, and most recently, the left shoulder. No time to schedule months of "light duty"
Three of the "kids" at work have had shoulder surgery in the past year- at least one of them looks to be finagling permanent disability out of it at age 25 or so...
