Tragic loss through stupidity. News story says steel bridge. At 1880, there may be some or a lot of wrought iron in that bridge. Truss bridges in Oklahoma in the 1920's have wrought iron for stay rods, they all have forge welded eyes on the ends. I hope a local blacksmith can check it out and salvage wrought iron for future use. It's easy to check, hit it with a grinder and red sparks with no secondary explosions, like cast iron, and it is wrought iron. Wrought iron is not be made anymore because of the health hazards puddling it in the furnace with a wooden paddle. With the value of scrap iron these days it would be a real shame to have wrought iron sold as scrap.
