Whether male or female, there is no excuse for what this idiot driver did.

That said, there are far to many bridges in this Country that are in extremely bad shape. This happens more due to governmental waste than anything. Between Governmental waste, and just plain poor planning when building new infrastructure, or failing to maintain the old infrastructure, it's surprising more things like this don't happen.

We had a local bridge rebuilt years ago using Federal funds. They filled a bottom to build about 150 yards of road bed, straightening out a bad curve that the old bridge was part of. They built nice, concrete abutments on each side, and then a really nice, new bridge. They tore the old one down......and then rebuilt a glorified version of it right back in the same spot. Once the second new bridge was in, they tore the first one down, even though it was built just as well, and actually straightened out a dangerous curve. All of the gravel fill was given away to anyone with a way to load it and haul it off. Neighbor in the know said they had to rebuild the first one, in the same spot, because using federal funds meant they couldn't make more than a 10% change in what was originally there. SO, to save money by prohibiting a 10% change, they spent at least 200% more than needed to complete the project within those guidelines.

As far as weight limits, when there are businesses built at the end of roads where heavy equipment is routinely needed, and there is a low limit bridge in the way......or rather one that the state allows to deteriorate until it becomes a low limit bridge, what are the businesses to do? In the words of one mobile crane operator we worked with years ago when asked that question, his response was "What low limit bridge". They can't force the state to repair the bridge, they can't move the business, and they can't do without the equipment to keep operating....All they can do is take the chance and hope things work out......

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
