I heard explanations on not being able to justify wind energy. This person seemed to know the bottom line. Wind energy is subsidized, with a guarantee of so much $ per kilowatt hour. I believe it is above the cost of coal generated or natural gas generated electricity. That causes our electric rates to go up. Furthermore the net pollution is greater than if there were no wind turbines. The fossil fueled electric power plants must run at a reduced capacity to keep from generating too much energy, but they run at a greatly reduced efficiency, which causes more pollution than when they run at full capacity. The fossil fuel plants need to ramp up when the sun goes down or cloudy and the wind doesn't blow. And the power plants are a lot like aircraft carriers or oil tankers. You have to plan way ahead when to turn, stop or reverse. You can't just flip a switch at the power plant and double the output without some lead time. I haven't diagnosed the latest report from this week that power plants are causing "global cooling". I can see wind turbines to the south and northwest of me. I don't have any problem with them, but I understand they make a fair amount of noise if you are close. We have another issue here in Iowa where they want to run a large power line diagonally from Northwest Iowa to East Central Illinois, I believe. There is a lot of resistance to that from landowners. There is talk of Emminent domain seizure, but there is an argument that the project is by a private corporation and not a government entity so it may not be legal. I have already told you more than I know, so will quit.
