I agree - this is something that those of us on the left side of the Atlantic never even think about. Certainly not here in Kansas. But, if you watch YouTube videos of European farming operations (or visit there, for that matter) you'll notice that many of the tractors have license plates. European farmers use their tractors for more on-road operations than we typically do in North America; we use trucks where it is more common there for a farmer to haul grain and other goods with his tractor and a wagon/trailer. This is also why a lot of larger European tractors are equipped with an air brake system and, in many countries there, very rarely with duals due to the width restrictions.
