So it is all semantics, but I think of it as a heater, heater is a noun not a verb. If it is for the hot water system, it is the hot water heater. There is a cold water heater in my well house, heats it to about 40F. What is the difference between a heater and a furnace. Not much. I have a hot air furnace, it makes hot air. It's not a cold air furnace. I call that an air conditioner. 8)
