I normally get my propane tanks refilled, but if I have an old tank, I always exchange it to get a newer tank. Last week the 20 pound propane tank exchange price was just under $15 at Menards. I don't know the fill weight inside the tanks. The exchange company covers the cost of updating the valves on old tanks, and scrapping out of date tanks as a cost of doing business. For me, it's worth $15 for a newer tank with about 15 pounds of propane.
