I use them in place of a hydraulic cylinder. When I steel a cylinder from one thing to use on another I use one to temporally replace the missing cylinder. Like on my corn picker I use a couple of weeks ever fall. When putting it away when done picking I take the cylinder off and put one of those on for storage or so I'm able to move the picker around in the off season. You could use one in place of a cylinder if you wanted. You just manually adjust it as needed.
