We had a great local event - the "Yegatta Regatta" - on the Chenango River. People would build rafts and get sponsors and spend the day floating 10 miles downstream, and all proceeds went to the American Red Cross. It was like Mardi Gras and some teams made incredible rafts
One year a guy got drunked up and fell off the back of a raft and drown. The family sued the American Red Cross for more money than this guy would have earned in 20 lifetimes. So no regatta no more after a dozen years of great times.
As far as the gun shows. I'm an avid shooter and hunter but I absolutely cannot stand to watch shows where the host whispers inane commentary non-stop. I miss the Curt Gowdy shows where he would over-narrate the hunt.
I remember watching Ben Pearson and Fred Bear bowhunting videos in school gym class! Boy, those days are gone.
