JimS: I've seen a number of movable vise mounts, but what most of them have in common is that they're too light for the job, and if they're heavy enough, they're right at the ragged edge of being movable, at least by hand. Running some rough numbers, your 3' diameter plate, say 1" thick, will be over 280 lbs, and anything much thinner than that won't hold up unless you're only using it for pretty light stuff, which kind of gets away from the reason for having a post vise, which, by definition, are meant for heavy-duty work such as is commonly associated with blacksmithing and similar pursuits. Not to say you HAVE to go this heavy, but if you're planning on using the post vise AS a post vise, as opposed to just a "regular" vise, you're going to want to. Again, there's nothing wrong with going lighter, but you're going to lose out on the very things that separate a post vise from a common bench-mount one.
