Jim, My wife is a been counter and is about as parsimonious as they come. Well, except for shoes and her hair :) She does the math, compares lbs./ozs. to dollars and cents and is certain we save much more than our annual $40 membership fee. Myself,I like the products there and would buy some things - breads, meat, great cheeses even they were slightly more expensive than other places. And as has been mentioned, the fee does keep a lot of the riff raff out. Sam's is not always cheapest on everything. When I was shopping for PU tires the Michelins I wanted were $30 cheaper at Discount Tire - same warranty, free rotation, etc. So I bought at Discount.
