I tore apart EVERY broken thing that went to the trash. Learned a lot of simple mechanics that way. Worked on my cars when ibwas younger and now I about refuse to hire it out if,I have time and don't need a bunch of special tools. I picked up a bunch of skills and tricks working for my uncle in his truck garage i was the designated tire and brake man through my entire high school carrer. My job as an HVAC/pipefitter service tech is a lot easier after doing those things. One of my favorite things to say to a new apprentice is "you never tore apart your toys did you".
