Finding Parts for Dayton Fayette Trailer Axles w Elec Brakes

Posted by K-n-L Country Farms on October 25, 2015 at 17:17:13 from (198.252.115.115):

I know a trailer might not fit this category but since me and my wife will be using the trailer to haul our Ford 9n as well as picking up another tractor and attachments, I was hoping no one would mind if I asked for help on finding parts for a trailer.

From what I know this trailer was a camping trailer probably from the 1970's to early 80's which the previous owner had removed the camping part of it and left the trailer part of it to do hauling.

It's very well built but the axle was mounted near the middle of the trailer and causes a balance problem whereby when the weight can't be kept toward the front of the trailer, the weight gets distributed toward the back of the trailer which reduced the tongue weight significantly. We just pick up some telephone poles to start building a 24x40 pole barn in the spring and the back end of the truck was being lifted off of the road

enough so that when the poles kept making the trailer bounce up n down meaning the back would shift down and then cause the front to bounce up and back n forth making us have to come almost to a complete stop to gain control. We even squealed some tire when the weight shifted down in the back and lifted up the front of the trailer.

...but anyways we just bought 2 Dayton Fayette trailer axles so that we could add some needed support to the trailer. We're going to extend the trailer several feet and move the axles approx. 3/4 of the way toward the back of the trailer.

The main problem is finding any parts and the mix-up with people saying how these axles were mobile home axle and are illegal in some states. Well these are for a FACT not mobile home axles and are certainly a camping trailer axle

The hubs have Dayton Fayette 9349 W-1 and W-2 on one set and Dayton Fayette 9349 W-3 and a W-4 on the second set. The drum diameter is 10.040 inches and is a 5-bolt configuration.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
