Hi Suffolk1 .The bale spear on the tractor is the same as the spear on the skid,only the mounts are not the same. Spears are 40" apart and I think 3 feet long. I made them this way so I could use the on large round as well as Big Square bales. Never really had much trouble with twine or net snagging , but common sense must prevail, some folks can ruin a bale no matter what kind of spear they have.I don't have to handle big squares much any more but if I did. I would put an pipe frame about 3 feet high up from the top ,so I could carry two bales, oneon top of the other, with no danger of the top bale coming back on the tractor. Bruce
