I have a 36' x 6" Scoop a Second grain auger.
I got sick and tired of having to fight to get the 9 hp cast iron B&S engine started the few times a year i use the thing to fill a couple bins with feed barley and oats.
I figured there must be a better way with less frustration,..I came up with the idea to drive it hydraulically with an orbit motor.
A couple days ago i took the gearbox off the auger and made a bracket and bolted the orbit motor with 1" shaft (i borrowed from a 15' x 5" drill fill auger i had laying around) straight to 1" ID of the bushing that before connected the gearbox shaft to the Auger drive shaft.
I hooked the hoses to my tractor who has a 10 gal/min at 2250 psi pump and fired it up not knowing if it would work but to my surprise the auger worked perfect, it turns the auger at around 600 rpm even when full of grain,... it actually turns a bit faster than with the gas engine but that seems no problem.
I am a happy man,...no more fighting with these pesky gas motors. :D
