Yellow Jackets built a nest in the ground just outside my well pump house. I took the tractor and dumped a scoop of dirt over the entrance hole and left it there for several weeks. With no way to get in or out of the nest I assume they all died.
Your plight is most likely almost over even if you do not kill all of them. Yellow Jacket nest only last one summer; after which the new queens will fly away to start more colonies. The remaining ones in the nest die at the end of the season, and the nest is not reused.
