I have twice had chickens hatch broods in October. One was a Light Brahma and she raised 12 thru the winter with very little shelter. One of those chicks swept the large fowl division of the MSF the following summer. The other hen was a small white Ameraucana and she hatched her brood in the hay shed. They ran around in there all winter with snow on the ground just outside. Impressive mothers x2!
