You did not say what the problem was on yours , And on the 86 sires they used two different hyd systems , one was and open center system and the later ones had a closed center system. Now as to that pesty O/Ring mybe BUT in all that i have split even if that O/Ring is hard as a rock the gskt is well sealed and if they can suck air thru that i would be suprised when you have to force them apart and what you have to go thru to clean the old gskt off. adding five extra just means that that old pump does not have to suck as hard to get the oil to the pump.
