The machinist that helped me with the custom M&W clone pistons came over tonight. We checked the piston deck to wrist pin distance on the new pistons, and it was exactly the same as the M&W ones that were used as a model. Based on that measurement, I am assuming that the old piston deck was above the block deck by the same amount. We got some better measurements, and it seems like the pistons are about .030 above the deck, the sleeves are .004 and the head gasket is about .050, so I think that gives me .024 clearance.
We looked at the oil in the intake valves, he is going to see if we can get perfect circle valve seals to fit them.
I wiped the cylinder walls off with lacquer thinner, then ATF, the glaze went right away and I have a nice cross hatch pattern.
