Pressure cooker I have is the biggest Presto made. Same one they used in Boston. Only use 1 1/2 or 2 inches of water. You also should have one of those plates in the bottom with the holes in it. Beans should be 1/2 inch head space and it sound like you didn't have the lids tight enough. Went through that myself a few years ago and that was the bug in the ointment.
