If you follow Ford's way of setting rear axle bearing preload you will keep on replacing seals BTDT . As for me i'll just keep on doing it my way and never have to replace a wheel seal . Been preloading wheel bearings probably longer then you have been around and never had a problem with wheel / axle bearings. Plum wore out eight semi Dumps and never had a seal leak or a bearing failure and trust me each and every load hauled was a bell ringer . My 88 F 350 had both seals out when i bought that well used and abused Oil field refugee and like always i buy the tools for the job and i did it the way the BOOK said , THE FIRST TIME and two weeks later they were leaking once again. The next time i did them i did it my way and the wheel bearings got torqued to fortyfive Ft. Lbs and left there last wheel seals installed for the 287thousand miles that i abused the truck .
