That is the largest native tree in Michigan...Cottonwood. Messy tree at best but when they get up to full size they are really something to see. If you ever take the ferry out to S Manitou, there is a huge one of those on the side of the road where you walk down to the docks. I only saw it once and that was three years ago...but I am still impressed.
