Subsoiler will do an entirely different job than a plow and they each have their place. The plow turns the soil over to get it ready to plant. The subsoiler will disturb very little on the top of the ground but breaks up the hardpan that can come from plowing, dull shares but still able to go in will make a lot more hardpan than completely sharp shares will. The smaller subsoilers like for your tractor usually would only go down about a foot, get into bigger tractors and units and you get that 18" depth. In the hard clay the 12" will help but not as much as the 18" does, In heavy sandy ground they will not do much good. And if I am not mistaken the aspeargus calls for a trench of 12". So what would be good would be to plow and work the ground at 6" deep, then take the subsoiler where you want the row and go as deep as possible, then follow up with that middle buster to open up the trench for planting. Without loosening up the ground first the middle buster may only be able to go 6-8" deep but after loosening the soil it could go deeper to get your trench.. So idealy you would be using all 3 different implements plus a disk in prossess.
