I've got a question about something I've never understood.
The chain on the left is the drive chain for the feeder paddles just above the hammer mill on the mixer grinder. Beside it is an old piece of regular 40 chain. Why do they use a "double tooth chain" in some applications? The mixer has normal sprockets on it and 40 chain works just as the other would. Is there an advantage to having it grip only every other tooth on that set of sprockets? I've always replaced it with the same kind when I have needed to (planter, etc), but I'm wondering if I couldn't just use a new piece of 40 regular on it. The sprockets look good, the splice link came loose while grinding feed so I'm just going with new.
