If you replaced the 8N solenoid with the one from Tractor Supply that has one side of the activating coil grounded through the mounting base, the other side of coil (small post on top) would ground through the start button by the gear shift.
On factory wired 8N there is no activating connection from switch to solenoid, so when you turn on the key nothing will happen at the starter.
With both sides of the solenoid grounded when you press the start button there is no power supplied to solenoid so nothing will happen.
