The Black Stripe 66 series were only made in 1976. IH was getting ready to introduce the 86 series and wanted to update the 66 series to help in getting them sold. There are many 66 series that have had the black stripe added. A true black stripe will have the serial number id plate on the right rear side on the rear housing and the flywheel housing is more rounded. The earlier versions have the SN id plate on a cover over the flywheel.
As far as the 1066 is concerned they are old work horse and can do much more than they were rated to do. They had a very good engine and were very dependable. The problems occurred when the fuel was turned up and you would have TA, clutch, and final drive failures. A good 1066 could easily outwork any Deere tractor at the time, but the Deere was much quieter and more convenient to drive.
