An old Amish Man that I used to travel with a lot before he died was an old thrasher man and he told story's like your friend. Being from Pa they thrashed at the barn. When it got cold and about to freeze out side He told about draining the water out of the old 28 X 50 Hart Parr and they would catch it in a tub and the men would have hot water to wash up with. They also slept in the barn but went to the house to eat. I so wish I had recorded some of the stories he told.
