The "sometimes" grinding of the gears can be caused by several factors.
A worn clutch won't have the spiral grooves in the friction disc. Those grooves allow air to get under the disc when released and break the vacuum that can hold it to the pressure plate/flywheel.
A dry pilot bearing can cause intermittent dragging.
Trying to get it in gear with the engine off idle will make it worse.
If the clutch operates smoothly otherwise, try using it as it is for a while. You might find there is a learning curve there, you'll learn to get it in gear easier as you use it. That will also give you a chance to see if anything else needs attention before going in to change the clutch.
