Rats are tough to get rid of and smart. If you have one then you have at least several and growing almost daily. If they won't eat poison then they have another food source. Get rid of all food sources and they will eventually (takes a few days) eat the poison. They are suspicious of anything new for a while. When they start eating poison they will eventually figure out what is killing them and they will stop eating it.
