You have more than one rat! Dad bought the farm with a very poor set of buildings in the early 1930's that was overrun with rats. He put the Rat Terror in the barn, but he could only see the white ones in the dark so those are the only ones that he killed. He dug down a barrel, glued shelled corn to the lid and filled the barrel half full of water - got tired of fishing the dead rats out of the barrel.
Finally mixed plaster with cornmeal and set out pans of water; the rats would get so plugged up they would waddle around and squeal real loud - and Dad would see the other rats leaving and heading for the neighbors!
