So, were you were born with the knowledge of what galvanized means, or did you have to learn it at some point in your life?

People learn about some things when they need to.

I'll bet that young lady knows about any number of things that you have no clue of, and would be similarly 'flabbergasted' to find out that you don't know something that is perfectly obvious to her.
