Last I checked they used both, depending on the ZIP you give them when you buy the phone.
Mine is a Verizon. Works almost everywhere except in the house(foil in the insulation).
The one my mom uses is or was an ATT as where she works(small rural town in a deep valley) the only tower was theirs. Had to give that towns ZIP when she ordered the phone.
