I agree with some on a visit to lake of the clouds at the west end of up. Calumet,Houghton,Hancock are also very enticing. As you are driving through just picture the area with over 2 foot of snow everywhere 8to9 months of the year. The soo locks are nice if you like to see a freighter sized water elevator. Mackinaw Island is a ok. It is a trip back in time. general public has no automobiles. Horse and buggy or bikes every where. Tshirts, fudge and the forts reenactment of the battle with the british to solidify our ownership is ok. Lower peninsula along the east side has a lot of unimproved shoreline, very natural. Pinconning is ok,cheese is their thing. Then bay city is nice for the bay area. Frankenmouths chicken is overrated but if you like xmas its your town. Stay away from Flint. Not a friendly town. Ann Arbour with the big house that houses the U of M football team is a BIG town but has an old feel. Center of the mitten has grayling and Gaylord small tourist areas. Lansing has the minor league lug nuts baseball, state capital, and museums everywhere, as well as Michigan State University. West side of the mitten from top to bottom is my fav. Traverse city has beautiful bay beach, antiques, wineries and a distillery with stores to purchase the local products. I recommend most of the products. Scenic M22 Takes you along the cost very pretty. As others mentioned Buckley Steam show is a must if your in the area. The terrain is no where near flat!!! Wear walking shoes. Big fleamarket area. Steam engines doing some exhibits, stationary engines doing their thing. Antique tractors, a steam locomotive encircles the grounds and gives rides. Then you got the Luddington shoreline. very pretty with docks that walk out to a light houses. Grand Rapids has many museums that are highly recommended. I would like to go there just haven't got there yet. Grand haven, st joe are nice winery areas getting a good established repour. Kalamazoo and Battle Creek are iconic but industrial in presentation. If your interested in antiques you need to look toward the bottom of the mitten for M60. it goes east and west. in the area of Adrian near 69 east to ann arbour is antiqueers haven. Keep in mind MI has terrible roads. The government is trying to blackmail the residents into higher taxes to fix roads. Problem is the bills they propose never makes it clear where the tax increase goes and the pork added to the bills are terrible. So we should apologize up front for your broken belts inside your tires. Whatever direction you choose to reach the bottom of the state will give you nice travels if you are not necessarily on the expressway. Two lane traveling is the way to go. Slower but sights are better. Going from the west tip of the up to the bottom of the mitten should take you on a 2 or 3 day vacation depending on the stops. Straight driving time is usually 6 hrs from top of the mitten to the bottom, approx. 350 miles. Up just seems to last forever cause most you see is trees after trees. There are some casinos spred out through the state starting at the soo south. Don't know if one is better than the other. But do have size differences. Hope you enjoy your trip through our great lakes state.

Today's Featured Article - The Nuts and Bolts of Fasteners - Part 2 - by Curtis Von Fange. In our previous article we discussed capscrews, bolts, and nuts along with their relative hardness and thread sizes. In this segment we will finish up on our fasteners and then work with ways to keep them from loosening up in the field. Capscrews, bolts and nuts are not the only means of holding two parts together. When dealing with thinner metals like sheet tin, a long bolt and ... [Read Article]
