I was the first Seasonal Park ranger at Pictured Rocks back in 1968-70, while the land was still being purchased by the Park Service. Back then it looked just like God had made it.... absolutely beautiful! The sand road traversing the park was just that, with a thick tree canopy and 30 mph comfortable speed. Now I hear it is straight paved road with wide shoulders and leveled. May as well be a 4 lane (in my opinion). Anyhow, if you get off the road the park is still one of God's wonders. Be sure to take the Pictured Rocks cruise from Munising. And on the east side, ( Grand Marais), the sand Dunes are specular. I lived in a Park Service cabin on Sable Lake with the duty of chasing dune buggies off . I could tell you some tales about that. LOL. And please take the time to hike in to Sable Light and Coast Guard Station from hurricane creek (1 1/2 mi.). It is well worth the time. Incidentally I cleared the first couple miles of the hiking trail (from the Log Slide to Sable light)that now traverses length (60 mi.)the park. Anyhow, enjoy your stay, wish I could go along and be your tour guide!!

My current collection includes a 1938 F20, 1945 H, 1946 H, and the recently purchased 1951 H. This article will focus on what I encountered and what I did to bring the 1951 NEAR DEATH Farmall H back to life.
