It could be welded by V notching to middle and building back up on both sides, then grinding, heat relieving, and re-hardening, but it would take a talented metal worker with some decent equipment to do so. If it shows rust in the middle with clean breaks on the outside, I'd take it back to Deere and say "hey, this looks like a manufacturing defect". They might cover it, might give you a used one, or they might cut you a discount on a replacement. Doesn't hurt to make your case, and it may be a known issue, or one that should be known.
I wouldn't trust an aftermarket bar to hold up well. The ones I've seen always seem to be narrower than OEM, sometimes by as much as a third. Possibly thinner also.
