Correct! And with the government (don't matter which party is in power) calling them entitlements. And entitlement is earned and there are a lot of people out there who did fall on hard times. There are even more who think it's owed to them.
My guess is he was trying to figure out why you planted more than you could consume. And then why you were not trying to cover your cost. Some people just have no clue.
