I wish I could visit Cairo, IL. I had family start a store in that town around the time of the civil war. Lots of family history there, but I was told that someone with my complexion should never go there, ever. I don't know if it is true, but after what happened there in a town where U.S.Grant made his war time outpost, and then in the early 1900's became a place of death for those he saved, I just won't try it. Call me crazy, but a town with that much history for the betterment of society and the end of slavery, should not have this much turmoil associated with it.
