The mortality rate was atrocious by our standards so they had baby after baby and a few would survive. When the principal countries of Western Europe colonized most of the uncivilized world things got much better and the mortality rate decreased significantly, when colonialization ended the natives reverted to their old ways but could not run their own countries and over population with little economic success resulted. Now the developed nations spend billion after billion of their own citizens dollars trying to prop up corrupt regimes to little effect, of course it is the poor people of these nations that suffer while the elites steal every foreign aid dollar to keep them repressed.
