JDS- just curious if your county is like ours.....allows one dwelling per 40 acres, but if we own the adjacent 40, we can "slide" its building entitlement so we can build two dwellings on one 40, then the second 40 stays in farm land forever. That allowed our son and daughter to build houses on one 40. On another quarter-section farm we sold off the farmstead, so have 3 other entitlements available. It"s our intention to slide those 3 to a wooded area, leaving one field of 119 acres to remain farm land.
