We used to reuse the fitting off brake lines on some foreign cars as well. WE cut the end off with a hack saw,if the fitting was rusted to the stub of line we heated it and dropped it into cold water,cleaned the fitting up on the wire wheel and then put it on the line,double flared the end and it was ready to go , same treatment for both ends. All our brake line came in rolls of 25' , it was the cheapest way to go. We always tried to save the old line's shape and length if we could,then moulded the new piece to match the bends,length and so on.
