My father told me that in the early 1930's, one of my great uncles cultivated corn all morning with a walking cultivator behind a team of horses. He came in the house at noon, ate lunch, sat down in a rocking chair to let his lunch settle, and slumped over dead. He was 76.
More recently, one of my wife's brothers celebrated his 72nd birthday on a Friday evening. The next night he went to bed same as usual and never woke up the next morning.
In the above narration, I think it IS possible the gentleman knew he was going. One of my aunts was hospitalized with a heart problem. The medical staff thought they had it under control. As she was dressing to be discharged from the hospital, she suddenly said, "I'm going to go!", and fell back on the bed dead.
