bison, my first one lasted 17 years. Next one 7 and also a 3/4 hp, but the installer put in a cheap chinese well control tank and not a WellXtrol. Nothing ever breaks for me on a weekday. So I had to pay weekend rates and also needed 275 feet of wire, fittings etc. The pump actually didn't fail, the wire got worn through from abrasion against the pump housing -- so just had them do a new pump anyway. Normally I'm a DIY fool most of the time but for something like this when your wife and kids find out there is no water you call in a pro. Heck I doubt if I could even rent the rig that they used to pull up the pipe. And they disinfected the well with pool chlorine which I would never have thought of.
