Arizona State University just opened a new technical education building about 2 miles from us. I'm not sure exactly what all trades they are covering yet, I think there will be more trades and buildings added in the future. I guess they want to offer more than the commercial schools that are turning into institutions that exist just to milk the money available from student loans. It is becoming apparent that the commercial trade/tech schools aren't giving much in exchange for all the student loan money they have the students apply for.
With the high tuition rates for 4-year colleges, I think the trend to attend those is going to turn downward. ASU new tuition is approximately $8500 a year for resident students and approximately $18,500 for non-resident students. However, at present there are more non-resident students than resident students. I look for that to change with the new tuition hikes announced recently.
