On my numerous drain tile, french drain, projects here, one side benefit is being able to walk or even drive tractors in those areas a few hours after a rain......instead of having to wait days..

In my cheap little projects, if I don't have enough fabric,

.......hay/straw, worn out carpet, any ol thing that will pass water but not silt gets used.

at an entrance or exit pit, after putting in the riprap,

a piece of carpeting covered lightly with dirt for looks, keeps it clean, and make maintenance easy.
